Summary

A distinctive and immersive fold-out piece designed to bring Ascham’s new boarding house to life.

Ascham School was undertaking a significant infrastructure project with the development of a new boarding house, designed to expand capacity and enhance the boarding experience through improved facilities and shared spaces. Alongside detailed functional documentation, the School required a more engaging communication, one that could clearly express the opportunity, reflect Ascham’s values and help prospective boarders and their families imagine life within the new environment. Working closely with an extended project team, we created a bold, large-format piece that translated architectural intent into a compelling visual story, directly supporting boarding enquiries and applications.

Drawing on early summaries of the facilities, architectural sketches and newly commissioned photography, we proposed a piece that stepped away from conventional marketing collateral. The result was an A1 fold-out poster that unfolds gradually, revealing the story of the new boarding house layer by layer. A digitally rendered view of a typical dorm space sat at the heart of the piece, designed to place potential boarders immediately into the environment and make the future tangible.

Process

  • Defining the narrative: Clarified the role of the piece within Ascham’s wider enrolments and boarding growth strategy, balancing aspirational storytelling with clear, accessible information.
  • Concepting with intent: Developed a fold-out structure that encouraged discovery, engagement and conversation with prospective families.
  • Visual storytelling: Interpreted architectural plans and sketches into inviting visuals, including a rendered dorm interior to help families visualise daily life within the new boarding house.
  • Audience-centric design: Created a bold, cohesive large-format layout that brought clarity, impact and confidence to the message, with a specific audience in mind.
  • Production management: Oversaw rendering, print production and finishing to ensure the final piece matched the ambition and quality of the project.
