Creating a clear, credible identity for a new education technology venture.
StudentThrive is an initiative supported by Altis, offering a cloud-based tool that integrates with tertiary education administration systems to flag students at risk of leaving. By providing early insights, it gives institutions the opportunity to act proactively and support students before issues escalate.
Following the successful launch of the Altis brand, the team approached us to help bring this new product to market. While the target audience was clear, the product’s positioning, naming, and visual identity all needed to be defined.
Process
- Naming and positioning: We conducted a full naming exercise, reviewing similar tools internationally and domestically to identify opportunities for differentiation. Names were tested for clarity, ease of use in conversation, and uniqueness within the education technology sector. Given the product’s core purpose (helping institutions proactively support students) the name StudentThrive was selected for its simplicity, clarity, and positive connotation.
- Visual identity: As a new entrant in the market, the identity needed to communicate credibility, safety, and professionalism. Our concept was distilled into a single driving idea: an enabling platform. This informed a flexible visual system, combining a contemporary wordmark with a graphic platform that highlights the benefit to the user (‘U’). The graphic platform was designed to articulate product benefits and attributes consistently across communications, establishing a professional and ownable brand presence.
- Brand launch and adoption: The identity was rolled out to internal teams and external stakeholders, supporting clear messaging and effective engagement with prospective users. Following the successful market introduction, StudentThrive secured second-phase investment, validating both the concept and the identity’s effectiveness.
