Creating a visual identity for a purpose-driven data movement.
Data4Good is a Not-For-Profit organisation connecting passionate data professionals who want to use their skills for purpose rather than profit. Operating across Australia and New Zealand, Data4Good promotes knowledge sharing, projects, and events that make data solutions accessible to businesses focused on solving community and global challenge from health and education to human rights and the environment.
With so much underutilised data available, Data4Good recognises the opportunity to harness these resources to create positive impact. Their mission is to bring amazing people together to drive this change and inspire others to join the movement.
Process
We were engaged to create a core visual identity that could be applied across all communications, providing a flexible framework for future campaigns and projects.
- Concept and approach: Inspired by the way data is stored and shared, we developed a visual language that balances clarity with meaning. We thought “inside the box”—literally—reflecting how data lives in servers, storage systems, and networks. The identity uses a clean, block-based structure with four elements representing Data, 4, Good, and the accompanying dot pattern.
- Design elements:
- Dot pattern: Symbolises community, collaboration, and the connections data enables.
- Block typography and structure: Evokes the physical housing of data while maintaining clarity and flexibility.
- Flexible application: The system can be easily adapted for events, digital campaigns, and printed communications, ensuring consistent use as the organisation grows.
