In summary

Reimagining The King’s School intranet into a unified, intuitive and device-agnostic platform that transforms daily communication and user engagement.

After seeing the success of our award-winning intranet for Ascham, The King’s School engaged us to help solve the challenges of their outdated, difficult-to-maintain platform.

The existing intranet no longer met the needs of staff, students or parents, nor did it support the scale or complexity of the School’s communication requirements. We were tasked with completely rethinking the experience and creating a secure, private digital environment that feels intuitive, purposeful and genuinely useful for all members of the King’s community.

Process

  • Strategic discovery and consultation: Worked with a large stakeholder group to understand pain points, user hierarchies and the essential actions that needed to be surfaced for each audience segment.
  • User-centred planning: Developed detailed user journeys, conducted Q&A sessions and mapped structural requirements to ensure clarity of content across staff, students and parents.
  • Wireframing and rapid prototyping: Created multiple iterations of high-fidelity wireframes, quickly testing and refining them to validate behavioural flow, hierarchy and usability.
  • Reimagining expected structures: Challenged the traditional intranet model and reshaped the navigation, layout and interaction patterns to create a more inviting and intuitive experience.
  • Design system and components: Rolled out a complete design suite including new icons, modular templates, components and layout frameworks — all aligned with The King’s School brand.
  • Workflow definition: Designed and documented the functional workflows for key communications such as notifications, bulletins, role-specific messages and operational updates.
  • Technical integration and review: Worked within a .NET environment, maintaining a private development space for regular review, refinement and cross-functional alignment.
  • Project leadership: Provided lead consulting and ran structured WIP sessions to keep momentum across a broad group of internal stakeholders.

Outcome

  • A modern, human-centred intranet that redefines expectations of what an educational intranet can look and feel like.
  • Significant increase in user engagement, with proactive daily use across staff, students and parents.
  • A fully responsive, device-agnostic platform that supports seamless access on desktop, laptop, tablet and mobile.
  • A clearer and more structured notification and communication system that has become a reliable go-to for parents and families.
  • A unified digital environment that improves efficiency, reduces friction and strengthens operational communication across the School.
  • A scalable framework that positions The King’s School for future digital transformation and ongoing platform development.
